ANY PET HATES IN FOOTBALL?

People involved in clubs who only ever see the refereeing errors that go against their own team but never those they benefit from. Players who cheat!

WHICH, IF ANY, LAW WOULD YOU CHANGE?

Injured players having to leave the field of play whilst the player injuring them remains on.

WHAT DOES BEING A REFEREE MEAN TO YOU?

It is a hobby which keeps me fit and gives me an opportunity to be involved in a sport I enjoy at a far higher level than I could have as a player.

WHAT MADE YOU TAKE UP REFEREEING?

Saw an advert for the course in The Green Final.  Decided to enrol just to learn about the Laws and about half way through I thought that maybe I could give it a go.

YOUR REFEREEING AMBITIONS –

Referee at the highest level in the country.

MAIN STRENGTHS –

I’m generally able to talk to players during a game.  Most seem to respect this.

Also managing to keep calm when others around me (players) start to lose their head.

MAIN WEAKNESSES-

Chocolate!  My age!

FUNNIEST MOMENT WHILE REFEREEING-

Running the line to David Watt.  If I hadn’t laughed I would have cried!

ANY HOBBIES & INTERESTS-

Refereeing!  I haven’t much time for anything else but do enjoy golf.

ADVICE FOR A REFEREE JUST BEGINNING THEIR CAREER –

Listen to all advice from experienced referees and decide for yourself which bits you are going to take on board to make you a better referee.  If you want to get to the top you have to show commitment, especially in regard to fitness.
